\nsplit – split a file into pieces
\nSYNOPSIS
\nsplit [OPTION]… [INPUT [PREFIX]]
\nDESCRIPTION
\nOutput \u00a0fixed-size pieces of INPUT to PREFIXaa, PREFIXab, …; default size is 1000 lines, and default PREFIX is ‘x’. \u00a0With no INPUT, or when INPUT is -, read standard input.
\nMandatory arguments to long options are mandatory for short options too.
\n-a, –suffix-length=N
\ngenerate suffixes of length N (default 2)
\n–additional-suffix=SUFFIX
\nappend an additional SUFFIX to file names
\n-b, –bytes=SIZE
\nput SIZE bytes per output file
\n-C, –line-bytes=SIZE
\nput at most SIZE bytes of lines per output file
\n-d, –numeric-suffixes[=FROM]
\nuse numeric suffixes instead of alphabetic; FROM changes the start value (default 0)
\n-e, –elide-empty-files
\ndo not generate empty output files with ‘-n’
\n–filter=COMMAND
\nwrite to shell COMMAND; file name is $FILE
\n-l, –lines=NUMBER
\nput NUMBER lines per output file
\n-n, –number=CHUNKS
\ngenerate CHUNKS output files; see explanation below
\n-u, –unbuffered
\nimmediately copy input to output with ‘-n r\/…’
\n–verbose
\nprint a diagnostic just before each output file is opened
